Description

One of the ways in which poetry differs from prose is how it expresses thoughts and feelings in a short, compact and beautiful form. Malay literature has a long tradition of short poems in the form of mantra and proverbs, while the Internet age has seen a growing enthusiasm for relatively new forms such as haiku and sonian.

These poems are composed in limited spaces with short lines and compact words, yet are capable of presenting issues of knowledge, philosophy, culture, social and political reality, science and nature. Through this programme, participants will get to know the different types of contemporary short poetry, and will also learn how to write sonian and haiku.
